Open ChessFlare
From your browser or the mobile app.
Each day, ChessFlare selects the opening lines you need to review based on your mistakes, your successes, and the date of your last session. You only play your side of the board โ the app handles the rest.
A clear loop, from the dashboard to the calculation of the next review date.
From your browser or the mobile app.
You play your moves, the board animates and follows the line.
Mistakes, hints, solutions, time spent, and the next review date.
In just a few minutes, you maintain your opening repertoire without thinking about what to work on.
A Spaced Repetition (SM2) algorithm applied to your openings.
ChessFlare adapts the SM2 algorithm, widely used in flashcard apps. Each review produces a quality score from 1 to 5, computed from your mistakes, your use of hints, and when you ask for the full solution.
If your quality is low, the repetition is considered not mastered: the review interval is shortened and the variation comes back quickly. If your quality is high, the interval grows progressively up to several weeks.
The more accurately you play without help, the further your opening variations are spaced out in time - without ever disappearing from your memory.
Important variations come back more often until they are mastered. You reinforce your repertoire exactly where you were fragile.
Instead of manually choosing what to review, ChessFlare prepares your session in seconds. You open the app, click the card, and play.
Each session builds a history of quality scores, time spent, and reviews completed. Perfect for tracking your training discipline.
The more mistakes you make on a line, the sooner it comes back. Once you master it, the interval grows and you can invest your time elsewhere.
You review in real chess positions with an interactive board, your repertoires, and your usual colors.
5 to 15 minutes per day are enough to maintain a complete repertoire without cognitive overload.
Spaced Repetition is for players who have already started building a repertoire.
You already know your opening systems, but you forget critical variations after a few weeks without practice.
You have invested time in building Learn courses and lines. Spaced review protects that investment over the long term.
You want a short, clear routine that doesnโt require choosing what to work on. The app handles the daily selection for you.
Yes. Spaced Repetition works from variations you have already learned in Learn courses. Once your lines are created and completed, they can enter the spaced review system.
Mistakes, hints, and solutions all increase your error score. That score is converted into a low quality value, which shortens the interval until the next review for that variation.
Yes. ChessFlare is available on the web, and through our mobile apps on Android and iOS. The 'Spaced Repetition' card remains your daily entry point, whatever device you use.
No. It secures openings you have already learned so you donโt forget them. You can keep creating and learning new lines in ChessFlare, which Spaced Repetition will then maintain over time.
Each day, ChessFlare selects the opening lines you need to review based on your mistakes, your successes, and the date of your last session. You only play your side of the board โ the app handles the rest.
Each feature helps you train a different part of your chess workflow, from review to memorization.
